Brynäs has been under a lot of pressure for a long time and before Tuesday evening they were about the same score as HV71 in the battle to avoid anxious qualifying.
But early on it looked like three points would be necessary for Brenas.
In the HV71 match against Skellefteå, Jönköping took an early lead, while it was slow for Brenas.
The team leader left
Team captain Anton Rodyan was forced to throw in the towel during the warm-up, and Brenas’ uphill battle intensified midway through the second half.
On a boxy play David Sklenicka was sent off for sending the puck over the rim and on the next three-and-five it got even worse for Gävle’s side when Elmeri Eronen scored a penalty kick to make it 1-0.
The nightmare begins at number three
Before the third period, Mikko Manner told head coach Brianna C. Moore that there was still a great opportunity for the team to turn the tide of the game.
And you got into a great situation early on when you had to play 37 seconds in five-on-three. But the power play never quite worked out and once Timrå was in full force it didn’t take long before Jacob Stenqvist made it 2-0.
In the end, Brynäs lost 0-4 while HV71 were on their way to three points against Skellefteå when the final whistle blew in Timrå.
Thus, it seems that Brynäs, with one round left, should focus on the qualification match against Malmö to stay in the SHL.
