The Montreal Canadiens goalie — who won the Hart Trophy and Vezina Trophy in 2015 and led the Classic team to the Stanley Cup Final in 2021 — has had off-ice concerns in recent years.
In October 2021, he took a break from hockey, and the following year he told us he was struggling with alcohol addiction.
Knee injury
Since then, Bracey has played just five games due to a knee injury – and it has long been debated whether he will shelve the pick and hit.
The Canadian has now spoken – and it looks like it will happen.
– I still have a little bit of hope that I can come back and play again, but at the moment it doesn’t seem very likely, says Price in a press conference.
-The knee is not where it should be to handle playing the goalkeeper role. I will continue the rehabilitation process and try to make my knee good enough for my daily life.
Contract until 2026
With an annual salary approaching SEK 177 million, Carey Price is the highest-paid player on the team by a good margin, even if his contract does not count toward the salary cap as long as he is injured for an extended period.
The contract expires in the summer of 2026, and he says that he will not stand in the way if the “Habs” want to change his contract.
He has won the Olympics, the World Cup and the JVM with the Canadian national team and is viewed as one of the best goalkeepers of his generation.
