In December, Caroline Schöblom gave thanks for being in the F19 National Team.
Now she is being introduced as the new assistant coach at Kansas City Current.
– There is no club in Sweden that can compare to it, Schoblom told Sportbladet.
After winning the elite title with AIK, Caroline Sjöblom joined the Swedish F19 national team. There it took Sweden to its first F19 EC since 2015.
Now Caroline Sjöblom is ready for new adventures, as an assistant coach at Kansas City Current. The contract runs until 2024.
– it’s a wonderful feeling. It’s been going since before Christmas, Sjöblom tells Sportbladet, so now I’m looking forward to getting started.
Kansas City, or “KC,” plays in the American League First Division, National Women’s Soccer League.
The club’s owners, Angie and Chris Long, and Brittany and Patrick Mahomes, are investing heavily in the club. For example, a team arena is created. A project worth more than 1 billion crowns. It will be the first major arena in the United States exclusive to a women’s soccer team.
The owners strongly believe that women’s football is a product to invest in, and they are doing so. I think it’s an incredibly cool project.

Sjöblom has not visited the club until today, and all conversations have taken place via video meetings. However, I was able to get a tour of the training facility.
– It’s an amazing difference compared to Sweden. Häcken may be close, but only one women’s soccer team has this facility. There is no such club in Sweden. There is a restaurant, ice bath, jacuzzi, three soccer fields, gymnasium, medical facility, office and 28 people around the team on staff.
How much do you earn compared to Sweden?
– There are many. There is no club in Sweden that can compare to that.
You want to contribute tactically
Swede Mimmi Larsson recently joined Kansas City, like Caroline Sjöblom.
It’s great to have a Swedish player and work with Mimi. I have complete control over it, it will be so much fun to be on the team.
What was the biggest factor that made you choose Kansas?
Club aspirations. They keep their chin up and they want to go to the playoffs and become champions. And that they have so much faith in me as a person and a leader. Their “approach” to me was decisive, as it is not about the fact that I am a woman, but that I am a good coach.
What are your goals in Kansas?
– I aim to contribute my skills and knowledge, and above all with a tactical eye, which is one of my strengths. Come and influence the Scandinavian leadership based culture. Work with the group, help and support Matt Potter, who is the lead coach. And then, of course, to gain experience to be able to improve, to become a head coach in a league like the NWSL.
Interested in becoming the captain of the national team
Last year, Kansas City reached the finals for the league playoffs, but lost to the Portland Thorns. Shublom doesn’t think there will be a long wait for him to become league champion.
– I hope we win next season, but it’s a very tough game in the league. But if not this season, then it is the next, because the conditions are there.
Having been a head coach at AIK and national team captain in several youth national teams, Sjöblom has been promoted as a possible future national team captain.
– It makes perfect sense considering how my career has been, but it’s not a complete goal for me. But I am definitely interested in it in the future. I keep all doors open. I love working with football, I want to work as high as possible, but of course it’s interesting.
