Manchester City’s John Stones is out with an injury against Arsenal.
Later, fellow defender Nathan Ake became a big hero – when City pushed further in the FA Cup.
“It was the first thing I did with my right foot, so I’m happy with that,” Ake tells ITV.
Referee Paul Tierney was seconds away from sounding the whistle in the first half of the FA Cup meeting between Manchester City and Arsenal when the incident occurred.
City defender John Stones took his right thigh, and smiled sinisterly. Pep Guardiola looked worried as the Englishman strolled straight into the dressing room, to be replaced by Aymeric Laporte.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta worked in the first half, replacing Albert Sambi Lokonga and William Saliba, in place of Rob Holding and Thomas Partey, in the second.
Star Treo on – did not help
If the Premier League leaders go up next?
we will.
Med en halvtimme kvar klev John Stones försvarskamrat Nathan Ake frame och rollade in 1–0. Arteta worked again and replaced the star trio of Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
But it didn’t help – though, putting pressure on Arsenal at times.
City fell behind and progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup.
“We had to use more Erling than we normally would”
“It was the first thing I did with my right foot, so I’m happy with that,” Aki told ITV.
The defender believes City stepped up after the break.
– In the second half we were a little better and played our game more. It was difficult, because they pressed us hard. So we needed to use Erling (Haaland) more than we normally would.
The draw for the fifth round will take place on Monday.
