Only 20,000 tickets to the Europa League final – but 150,000 fans on site.
Seville was invaded by supporters of Frankfurt and Rangers.
– We had to go to share the atmosphere, says pro Theo Hill who drove 40 straight hours to Seville with his friend.
At 21.00 tonight there will be a kick-off in the Europa League final in Seville, where Frankfurt and Rangers may be a little unprepared for the title.
And both teams will have huge fan support even if the team’s fans get only 10,000 tickets for each of Seville’s stadium, Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, which has a capacity of more than 40,000 tickets.
But in total, up to 150 thousand fans of both teams traveled to Seville, where the summer has already come. The temperature was 35 degrees on Wednesday, and many Frankfurt fans chose to swim in a fountain while beer was dripping in the water, photos show.
I drove 40 hours
And some who don’t want to miss the final party are Rangers supporters Theo Hill and Jordan Powers.
– We just jumped in the car and went down to Seville, we drove for 40 hours non-stop, but we had to go to participate in the atmosphere. Just being able to say we were here makes it worth it, Hill tells the Daily Record.
The one who actually managed to get tickets for the match is 9-year-old Robbie Young. He was surprised by his family with their tickets after they previously said he was too young to go. In fact, they struggled very hard to renew Ruby’s passport.
I sat on the phone for eight straight days and emailed each authority. His mother Kelly says it was a nightmare, finally resolved with the passport.
On Monday, the family flew to Alicante and have since traveled to Seville in a caravan.
“Nice weather”
The ambiance of the place is praised by Alan Wallace, who is there with his son Alfie.
– We have to win, this atmosphere is special. The weather was great, Alan tells the Scottish Sun.
One of the people who filled the crowd was Alfredo Morelos, the Rangers striker. He is injured and cannot play the final, but was seen in pictures walking the streets with the crowd.
But it wasn’t just a joy before the final but there was also some chaos and squabbling. Police are said to have arrested five Frankfurt supporters after they threw stones and a bar counter while burning fireworks.
The security force is large, with more than 5,500 police on site to control the fans.
