Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to remove Harry Maguire from the starting line-up when Manchester United underperformed last winter.
Now he wants to leave the club and Eric Ten Hag will not stand in the way of the sale.
This is what The Athletic wrote in a large document about Ronaldo’s return at United.
It was in February of this year – in the middle of nowhere Manchester United Cancer in the league – with a number of players, including Cristiano RonaldoPaul Pogba and Raphael Varane started a meeting with the team manager at the time Ralph Rangnick.
Ronaldo’s agenda was clear: he wanted the team to play with two strikers instead of one – and captain Harry Maguire to be relegated to the bench.
Rangnick believes the discussion was inappropriate when Maguire was not present and some players later apologized, The Athletic wrote.
Looking for clubs – want to play the Champions League
Ronaldo’s frustration grew during the spring, and this summer it became clear that he wanted to get out of the club he returned to just a year ago.
According to the Athletic document, CR7 desperately wants to play in the Champions League. His agent Jorge Mendes spoke to Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Napoli, Sporting Lisbon and others – to no avail.
The transfer window will close tomorrow
Earlier today, United boss Eric Ten Hag confirmed Ronaldo would remain at the club, while Athletic wrote that Ten Hag made it clear to management that he would not “stand in the way” of the sale – if the opportunity presents itself.
Tomorrow the transfer window closes at midnight.
