Dalkurd held a minute’s silence for Liston Söderberg before the match against VSK

The Västerås SK players were alone during the silent minute.

Dalcord has chosen not to honor the late coach Lennart “Leston” Soderbergh.

– We as a club made the decision, says coach Amir Azrafshan.

Longtime Vasteras coach Lennart Soderbergh passed away recently and when the club hosted the Dalcord in the Premier League on Sunday, he was honored.

VSK held a minute’s silence for Liston.

– I thought it felt good. “We had a team on the pitch and we gave a short speech as usual,” said club president Stefan Brandberg.

Dalcord nodded

At the same time that “Liston” was known for success as a coach and player, at VSK and AIK among others, he ended up several times in the dark over racist remarks.

In 2004, he was expelled from VSK after racist insults against opposing players. The jump also prompted then Sports Minister Mona Sahlin to urge Liston to “crawl into his hole”.

At the same time that the VSK players were silent and “Liston” was celebrated in Iver Arena, the Dalkurd players stood in their own ring and prepared for the match.

– We as a club have made the decision that they can honor their legends as much as they want, head coach Amir Azrafshan tells Discovery Plus.

– But we also know what the person in question stood for, so the club made the decision that we focus on our decisions and lead them aggressively.

‘They can answer’

VSK chief Stefan Brandberg does not want to comment on the nobility of Dalcord at the silent moment.

– It’s a choice they’ve made. We did what we set out to do and they have to answer how they think about this part. We think we’ve done it well. They have to answer themselves, says Brandberg, it’s none of my business to express myself.

You are not angry with their decision?

– No, we had an interview yesterday and there were opinions from them. They can answer how they see it, but we’ve implemented it now and we’re satisfied with VSK’s side.
