Dan Daniel Wiesner grieved when his mother died in the middle of qualifying

Svenska hockey playoff referee Daniel Wisner is deeply saddened.

Mother Marianne Wiesner died between the semi-final and final.

– It’s a tragic feeling Cancer is never fair, says the 41-year-old judge’s profile.

On Thursday, Marianne Wiesner was buried in Philipstadt Church for a final farewell.

The day before Christmas Eve, she received the news that she had lung cancer.

On New Year’s Eve, doctors announced that the cancer had spread to the brain.

In April, one day before her 67th birthday, Marianne Wiesner passed away.

Sometimes life and work are put on hold. There will be different views and different meaning. She died very early, of course. Although I have processed it, it is very difficult. My mom went from healthy to gone in a matter of months. She was an active person who took care of herself. It was a short and painful illness, says Daniel Wiesner.

Throughout the winter, Daniel Wiesner continued to hold the position of chief referee in Hockey Allsvenskan and moved to the SHL.

– It was an emotionally difficult time. My mom lived in Filipstad and I live in Karlstad, seven miles apart and I wanted to be there as often as possible. It was estimated to have a little time left when we got the news. We understand that it’s over, says Daniel Wiesner.

Hockey has become a breathing hole

There was a lot of focus on the referees during the qualifiers, Daniel Wiesner refereed, among others, the seventh and deciding final between Modu and Djurgården alongside Christopher Volkstrand.

– For me, it was like a break from escapism and judgment to think about something else. It was nice to have that time. It’s a thousand percent focus when you’re on the ice and very intense, especially in the playoffs. You get a different perspective on just about everything, even on the ice and in between games. To miss things will always happen, you think of a missed expulsion or a bad expulsion in a different way than you might have done before. There are more important things then and there than you making a mistake and that’s healthy. As a referee, you are very hard on yourself and especially on the group of referees we have in Hockey Allsvenskan. It helped me not dig myself in so much when I made mistakes, says Daniel Wiesner.

He describes it as a close-knit family with a mother, father and sister.

– Mom has been a pillar of support in our family, she has always been the person you can rely on. She took care of everything in the family and took care of the rest of us. There will be a huge void. No words can explain my mother. I want to thank her for always being there, no matter what the outcome in life. I miss her terribly, says Daniel Wisner.

He also has a long playing career as a striker behind him, mainly at Bofors in the hockey Allsvenskan.
