Daniel Kendberg informs the police prosecutor: ‘Legal scandal’

Ostersunds FK’s former chairman, Daniel Kindberg, who is currently on trial for bribery, reported the case’s prosecutor to the police.

– I mean, this is a huge legal scandal, says Kindberg.

In a police report, sent Thursday, Daniel Kindberg wrote that Attorney General Martin Pressman of the National Anti-Corruption Unit “willfully overlooked the absolute duty of prosecution that rests with the prosecutors in their service.”

– Of course, this is not true, says Prosecutor Martin Pressman to TT and adds that it is not unusual for a person accused of a crime to be dissatisfied with the prosecutor’s decision.

The report was sent in the middle of the ongoing trial in Östersund County Court, where former OFK chief Daniel Kindberg was charged with aggravated bribery, aiding and abetting a serious accounting offense or aiding and abetting the complication of tax control (aggravated offence). Four other men are charged in the same case.

Suspected bribery

According to the lawsuit, during the years 2014 to 2018, when he was CEO of municipally owned housing company Östersundshem, Daniel Kindberg requested improper benefits and then obtained them from a supplier.

This must have been done by Kindberg sending 31 invoices from its own companies regarding consulting services to the supplier, who paid a total of SEK 5,545,000 to the Kindberg companies. According to the prosecutor, these payments are considered bribes.

The report on breach of duty to sue that Kindberg has now submitted to the attorney general in the ongoing case, Martin Pressman, relates to the attorney general’s reluctance to sue another businessman for submitting a false invoice. According to the police report, the prosecutor must have done this so that the entrepreneur could provide information about Kindberg “in the spirit of the so-called crown witness”.

legal institution

Attorney General Martin Pressman said the issue was raised during yesterday’s hearing in district court.

I explained my decisions and why in some cases I chose not to prosecute and that these are decisions based on the law. I’m sure it’s true, Pressman says, and if he doesn’t think so, he has every chance of giving it a try.

However, Danielle Kindberg is quite sure that things did not go well.

I mean, the rule of law and the legal system are out of play when the investigative part of the process violates the law and impartiality that prevails. I mean, this is a huge legal scandal. It cannot be described as anything other than corruption, says Daniel Kindberg.

Trinidad and Tobago: Do you have any hope that this report will influence the prosecution against you in a positive direction?

In substance, I don’t think the report will affect the charges against me. I hope the system won’t punish me, says Daniel Kindberg, but it won’t reward me in any way.
