Derek Corenlius ready for Malmö FF match

Malmö FF recruits from MLS.

Canadian national team player Derek Kornelius, 25, is ready for the club.

“It was a fairly quick process to set everything up,” Corenlius says in a press release.

Ever since I heard about Malmö’s interest, I’ve been convinced this is exactly the right place for me, says the centre-back in a press release.

Malmö FF previously signed Anton Tinnerholm from MLS. Now the club has completed its second signing during the winter window. Derek Cornelius recently came from playing for Greek side Panetolikos where he was on a two-season loan from MLS club Vancouver Whitecaps.

– I’m so glad to finally be here. Seeing the stadium, the facilities and the environment is so inspiring and now that I see everything in place I can’t wait to go here and play in front of a full house. It was a fairly quick process to set everything up, but since I heard about Malmö’s interest, I was convinced this was just the right place for me, Corenlius says in a press release.

The centre-back made his debut for the Canadian national team in September 2018 and has earned 14 caps. He was also in Canada’s squad during the World Cup, but did not get any minutes.

– Derek is a skilful and athletic centre-back who fits well with our style of play and requirements. In addition, he has a winning personality that we believe will be appreciated by both those around him and his supporters when he starts in January, says sporting director Andreas Jörgson in a press release.
