The fight for WC in F1 2022 could be decided by penalties.
And that applies to many positions in the championship – because 19 of the 20 drivers are already at the limit when it comes to engines.

F1 has in recent years limited the use of engines, to reduce costs, differences between teams and also for environmental reasons. In the past, drivers could use one engine to qualify and the other to race, but that time has expired. Each season, the driver can use three internal combustion engines, the same goes for the turbochargers, the MGU-H and the MGU-K, and drivers can use two energy storage units (ES) and two for the control electronics. As for the exhaust system, the driver is allowed to use eight units in one season. Could decide the title fight in the F1 World Cup 2022
When a driver exceeds the limit, the punishment awaits at the start of future races, and already during the summer break there are many drivers who will be penalized during the fall. They can even decide the battle for the World Cup title.
Charles Leclerc, second in the World Cup, is at or above the limit of nine elements, World Cup leader Max Verstappen with six elements. This is the standings in WC in F1 2022.
Nineteen of the 20 drivers in Formula 1 have reached or above the limit, seven drivers have already finally started or exited the track due to an engine penalty, Fernando Alonso has already been beaten twice – in Spain and Austria.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (Canada), Carlos Sainz (France), Alpha Toure’s Pierre Gasly (Hungary) and Yuki Tsunoda (Canada) were also penalized. Just like Valtteri Bottas (Austria) and Haas’ Kevin Magnussen (France) from Alfa Romeo.
The driver with the best starting position is McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo, who can change every unit again without incurring a penalty and change the exhaust system six times without incurring a penalty.
But he, on the other hand, has other problems, as it is rumored that McLaren wants to break his contract despite the passage of a year.
This is the situation regarding engine penalties in the water cycle in F1 2022:
engine:
Leclerc, Sainz, Gasly, Tsunoda, Bottas and Magnussen have already been penalized once, and Alonso already has two penalties. Mercedes, Williams, Aston Martin and McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo can change another engine without penalty. All other drivers are now at max. In the next exchange, there will be a penalty.
Turbo and MGU-H:
The situation is the same as with the engines. Hamilton has reached the limit while former teammate Bottas has already crossed the streak twice.
MGU-K:
The same position for the engine. George Russell and Sebastian Vettel are about to happen, while Fernando Alonso has made one change, not two as in the engines.
energy storage device:
Alonso and the AlphaTauri drivers cross the line, while Red Bull and McLaren use the first unit of the year. Everyone else uses the other.
control electronics:
Leclerc, Sainz, Gasly, Tsunoda, Bottas and Alonso (twice) have already signed penalties. Verstappen and the McLaren drivers are in unit one, the others are in unit two.
exhaust system:
No driver has been sanctioned yet, but Leclerc is in his eighth unit, and no other driver has used more than five exhaust systems.
Motion vector:
Here, several elements are usually changed at the same time. Verstappen, Leclerc and Schumacher, plus drivers from Alfa Romeo are now fourth and final. Lewis Hamilton and Alexander Albon now use the second, while others use the third.

The penalties are based on the fact that if the driver uses more than the designated unit, he is penalized by dropping ten places at the start when the first element changes, and if another element is changed, he is penalized by another five places. When changing gearboxes, five places are also applied, but if the driver is punished with more than 15 places for landing, he must start at the end.
