Drugs have taken over the junior team – and now the players are fleeing

For many years, the long-standing association had a first-class junior team.

But after the players start taking drugs, the youngsters run away and the whole team is on the verge of disintegration.

– It will soon split, says the player Oscar.

This morning, young hockey player Oscar, whose real name is something else, spoke out about drug problems in his junior team. What started as locker room bragging rights a year ago has already escalated into an addiction for many teens.

The results take place at the bottom and the atmosphere is violent. Among the young people, the net drug crystal became so normal that Oscar saw a player sniffing a rope in the dressing room.

Sportbladet spoke to her teammates, parents and junior team leaders. They describe a guild in crisis and a team in dissolution.

“People are tired”

According to Sportbladet’s information, two talents are receiving treatment for substance abuse issues and are being removed from the game. Another couple left of their own free will and are pausing their projects for the time being.

– It’s terrible. I understand you don’t want to stay, says William.

But the player’s mass exodus is far from over, according to the players.

People will leave. I know. Oscar says, people are tired of this and don’t want to stay.

But the club still acted after they heard about the problems. Isn’t that enough?

– No. We’ve had a lot of crisis meetings with the coaches and they know the reason for the bad results. We on the team tell them but they don’t listen. Not even the high-ranked would dare to kick out more players. I think it’s because it would look bad, but now that there aren’t strong enough measures, it affects the rest of us instead.

Andreas notes that the team has been shrinking little by little this winter. He managed that six people have already resigned during the season and new resignations are expected.

– There will be more people leaving during the Christmas holidays. He says I am quite sure and can name some of them.

“It affects everyone.”

And William, Oscar and Andras are called something else. They belong to a classic and successful league that usually promotes players from their junior activities to the A team. So if all the talent goes away, the men’s team will be hit hard in the long run, they think.

– What happens in the club affects everyone, says Oscar.

Sportbladet has allowed the club’s management to listen to what the players have to say, but they don’t want to answer our questions, such as how they assess the risk of a junior team ending and what the consequences might be.

– We will not comment on the article in detail because work on this is still ongoing, as the sports director says and confirms that he does not tolerate alcohol and drugs at all.

– We as a club will not let this go, but it is a work that will continue to move forward because we have a responsibility to secure a safe training environment, he adds.
