Hammarby’s Edvin Kurtulus has been named to the Kosovo Nations League squad.
But he chose to say no to being able to play for Sweden in the future. It may become relevant soon.
“I’ve had many good conversations with Jan Andersson and I hope I can soon call myself a Sweden player,” he told Hammarby’s website.
Sportbladet was able to reveal earlier today that Edvin Kurtulus had picked Sweden over Kosovo – who called him up for the Nations League squad in June.
Now a versatile Hammarby has appeared telling us about the choice of the club’s website.
– Because of what is being circulated in the media regarding my selection for the national team, I just want to say that I am very proud that Kosovo wants me in its national team, but the selection presents me with a choice that I have to make. I am honored to love two nations, but I also have a responsibility, to make a decision that I feel deep down. For me, both Sweden and Kosovo are close to my heart. Since I was born and raised in Sweden, I feel like I want to represent Sweden, he says.
“Maybe join the next group”
Kurtulus says he had discussions with him Jan Anderson He hopes to become relevant to the next team.
The paperwork is in progress and I hope it goes quickly and smoothly so I can join the next group.
– Edvin and I talked and had a good conversation. Now that he has been named to the Kosovo first team squad, he has had to make an active selection of the national team he wants to represent in the future. “I am very happy that he chose Sweden,” Jan Andersson tells the association’s website.
National team manager Stefan Peterson says Kurtulus could already be relevant for the next four matches in the Nations League.
The process is ongoing but before FIFA makes its official decision, Edvin cannot represent any national team. We can’t say how long it will take, but we will do what we can to speed it up. If it’s clear before the next rally ends, the idea is that he can join the squad, says national team manager Stefan Peterson.
