New York. Canucks games may not mean much anymore, but Elias Peterson continues to shine.
Last night clinched an away game against St. Louis with a great individual display in overtime – having played up to two goals.
– I shot on goal more than ever, but only in overtime did the puck want to go in. I’m happy about that,” says Ongje’s star after the 3-2 win.
Such is the case with the Vancouver Canucks. They’ve fallen far behind with all the brutal losses through the fall and winter, and rather than just dream of the playoffs, club management in the remaining week before the trade deadline will send more entrenched pieces against the future.
But Elias Peterson does not allow himself to be arrested. He continues to play the best hockey of his career, and after tonight’s performance, which included an extra goal and two assists, moves him into seventh place in league scoring, right behind Erik Carlson.
“Yes, we did good things tonight,” he says with a satisfied smile afterwards.
What EP himself did was particularly good when there were only fifteen seconds left in the stretch.
He grabbed the puck in his own zone, sprinted across the ice, entered the opponent’s zone and dusted off the decisive 3-2.
– I had more shots on goal than I ever had, I think it was ten times, but in overtime only the puck wanted to go in. He says I am happy with that.
The one who isn’t happy at all is Blues coach Craig Berubi. Since the club replaced superstars Vladimir Tarasenko and Ryan O’Reilly, those who remain have played mediocre hockey at best – and last night they lost a 2-0 lead in the third period.
