Emma Lind on professional time in Rome and the national team

Cordoba. The 27-year-old national team player and Doldes plays every day for the Italian big club Roma.

There you have Emma Lind.

I may have taken a slightly more skewed path than anyone else, says the goalkeeper.

Most things are as usual when the Swedes get off the bus at the training ground in scorching Cordoba, but two new names are in place.

Aggressive winger Stina Lennartsson who plays in Linköping and then goalkeeper Emma Lind from Roma.

– It is fun to be here and to experience a different environment, a harsher environment, very inspiring, says the goalkeeper.

‘Take a more skewed course’

The journey to his first call-up to the national team has not been as smooth for the 27-year-old, who grew up in football in Vadstina the same as Stena Blacksteinius, quite the opposite.

I may have taken a slightly more skewed path than anyone else. Chances are sometimes a little unlucky, but the goal has always been to get here. And I think the path I took is a little different for different people.

From Östergötland it was bound for Jitex, Limhamn/Bunkeflo and Rosengård before the route to Europe was opened for the first time. But the time in the German Potsdam turbine did not work out, and instead she returned to Gitex and the elite team.

So last winter the chance to become a professional abroad arose again and Lind chose to move to Italy and the big club Roma.

It’s clear that Italy have a bit of a special goalkeeper style and they think what they are doing is good, but we are still open to using our own style of play even at home in Italy.

‘Italians are always right’

When the 27-year-old describes her goalkeeping style, she asserts that playing with her feet is her primary strength, but she is also very calm and confident.

The Italian goalkeeper’s style is more “old school” than Linde is used to.

– Italians are always right, if I say so, she laughs and continues:

There may be some different technical parts. It should look good in Italy rather than be practical. It’s fine to climb to the cross and throw yourself, although you may not always need to. Now I’ve learned to save gently.

Hedvig Lindahl and Jennifer Falk are missing from this group, and Lind is glad to have had the chance to show off

I felt like I waited a little longer for my turn. I felt like I was biting into other people’s heels for a bit.

Do you feel like daldis when you come here?

– Yes, but a little like that, but then I think I can get out of a disadvantage and people will get to know me through it
