Erik Gustafsson will stay for three more seasons at Luleå.
The popular 34-year-old captain will remain until the 2026/2027 season.
– It feels great that we agreed to continue, because this is exactly what I wanted all along, says the general linebacker.
There have been persistent rumors that Erik Gustafsson will return to his home region and play for Timra.
Now there will be a total of nine seasons in Luleå, which it symbolizes so much.
Since joining the club in 2018, he has played with a C on his chest.
-We are enjoying our time very well in Norrbotten and the goal of winning SM gold with Luleå still stands. “This is probably my last contract at this level, so I have about three and a half years to realize this dream and I will do everything I can to make it happen,” says Erik Gustafsson.
Best season in years
The beauty of the number 29 is, in principle, never to be harmed, and partly to make those around you better.
-It feels very good that we will be able to continue working with our team captain for three more seasons. Erik Gustafsson represents a great deal of what we want to see in Luleå. He has good leadership, exemplifies hard work and has a natural drive for continuous development both personally and with the group, says sporting director Stefan “Skogan” Nilsson.
After a couple of slightly slower seasons, Erik Gustafsson has taken a big step in terms of form this season.
Among other things, thanks to Marcus Hardegård lightening the load by taking over the role on the power play lineup.
In a five-on-five match, Erik Gustafsson and Marcus Hardegaard formed one of the best defensive duos in the league.
