Norway faced Northern Ireland at the European Championship premiere – and generally dominated.
Already after half an hour they made the score 3-0 and the match was about to end.
Norway is absolutely dominant, says expert TV4 commentator Jonas Ideval.
Norway were already big favorites when they faced Northern Ireland at the European Championship premiere, and it’s likely to be over. Already ten minutes later, the brilliant talent of Manchester City Julie Blackstad gave the Norwegians the lead.
Three minutes later, the next blow came.
Northern Ireland’s backline was indifferent and Ada Hegerberg got the ball into the penalty area. Then she selflessly served her teammate, Frieda Manoun, who couldn’t help but bump it 2-0.
In the 30th minute of play, Caroline Graham Hansen could have brought that home for Nadene Calwell when he went up the left flank, but his high ball was a bit high.
Then the Norwegians continued their extravagance, sometimes a match against a goal in Saint Petersburg. Mary’s Stadium, but the result stood in the first half.
He scored his first ever goal in the European Championship
But what was already clear would create a bit of tension in Northern Ireland, as at the start of the second half they were cut back through Julie Nelson who scored the country’s first ever goal in the European Championship.
But it won’t last long. Five minutes later, Norway took a 4-1 victory and dashed the little hope that had ignited in the Northern Ireland women.
There has been much talk before about Lyon star Ada Hegerberg’s return in the context of the tournament after a five-year boycott of the Norwegian national team. The 26-year-old had hit the net in the second half but was eliminated for offside. It stood 4-1 and Hegerberg will have to wait a little longer for his first full blow of the tournament.
“Norway is completely dominant,” says expert TV4 commentator Jonas Ideval after the match.
