In February, Chelsea striker Fran Kirby took an indefinite break from football due to health concerns.
In an interview with The Guardian, the 29-year-old opened up about the harsh spring with unexplained fatigue issues and pericarditis she suffered in 2019.
The tests did not give any direct answers that could indicate “you have this disease.” It was very tired and exhausted, says Kirby.
– So there were a lot of potential things thrown back and forth. I’ve worked with different psychologists and different specialists regarding diet and recovery. I got an oxygen tent in my house and tried different things that could help me.
Mosovic: “Just having each other”
Although she hasn’t played a match since then, national team captain Sarina Wegmann still dropped her out of the England squad for the European Championship. With the home country now starting the tournament against Austria at Old Trafford in Manchester, Kirby is expected to get time to play.

Fran Kirby is a great player and a very professional. It’s a lot of fun for England and the tournament in general. Mosovich says she will raise the quality with her brilliance and adds that she has tried to help her teammate to the best of her ability:
– We support each other in everything you do. It’s just being there for each other and helping each other, nothing more.
The goalkeeper believes England’s chances of success at home are good.
– I think there are a lot of players with individual skills and they put it together. That’s why I think they’re feeling vulnerable this year, Mosovich says.
