Roger Stockton, 56, and his son Bradley, 21, crashed and died on the Isle of Man TT on Friday.
Five participants have died so far in this year’s edition of “The World’s Most Dangerous Race”.
Motorcycle racing started Isle of Manan island between England and Ireland, infamous.
Father and son Stockton, Roger and Bradley, who competed together in the sidecar class, died in a tragic accident on Friday.
“Losing two of our members, two people from the same family, is really heartbreaking, but the bond between a father and son who fulfilled his dream of competing together for the TT gives us a glimmer of light in this dark time.” The organizer writes in a statement.
Five deaths this year
This means that five people have died in the past nine days during this year’s competition, which runs for about two weeks.
The Telegraph wrote that this year’s death toll is the highest since 1989. At most six contestants died in one year and in the same year (1970) and a total of 265 contestants lost their lives since the competition began in 1907.
The most dangerous race in the world
There are several reasons why the race has been called “the most dangerous in the world”. Drivers drive at a speed of 300 kilometers per hour on narrow and uneven roads next to numerous slopes, where stone walls, buildings and spectators stand right next to the road.
It was previously described by competition winner Richard Coyle as follows:
– If Roger Federer misses a shot, he loses one point. If I miss a curve, he told the New York Times, I’m going to die.
