Felix Rosenqvist’s future in Indycar is uncertain.

With his second place in first this season, the Swede is seeking an extension.

– It’s going well for me, and I want to continue with it, so yes, I hope to stay, he says.

Felix Rosenqvist He recently signed an extension to his stabled Arrow McLaren compound. But with four contract drivers next season and only three cars in Indycar, there is a risk that the Swede will move to Formula E.

Rosenqvist is fighting for the Indycar spot with big names Pato O’Ward, Alexander Rossi and current champion Alex Palou.

But Rosenqvist isn’t ready to throw in the towel, who chose the track in Indianapolis to demand an extension, driving through Friday’s fastest-ever qualifier.

– I think I’m in a good position no matter what happens. I’ll get a good job somewhere, says Rosenqvist.

‘It can be cruel’

Indycar is addictive though.

“When you succeed and win a race or get on the podium or something like that, it’s something you just want to do again because it’s so helpful when you drive well. But it can also be brutal when things get tough, as it happened to me last year.

O’Ward – who became close friends with Rosenqvist – hugged his teammate after the playoffs success, and is hoping to stay next season.

– I love the boy, says O’Ward and continues:

– What makes the band’s vibe so good around him is that he’s a really good guy, and it’s very easy to work with.

Ericsson Tribute

Rosenqvist has five races left of the season to prove he deserves a spot next season. Swedish colleague Marcus Ericsson leads the way. However, his car broke down during qualifying on Friday, so he will finally start.

– I feel for Marcus, (but) the sooner he starts coming back, the better he finishes. Rosenqvist says he has a magical way to always stay there at the end.

– Maybe that’s why he’s leading the championship. He may be the best driver in the field right now.
