Finland has ‘too many’ right-wingers

It can be crowded on the right in the backline of Finland during the European Championships.

After spring in Damallsvenskan, the team – chosen in the “Group of Death” – suddenly has two new right backs.

“Okay, it’s going to be a tough competition,” Adelina told Rhea Oling of Rosengård.

When Finland reached the European Championship, it was Juventus’ Toyga Heerenen who played at right-back. Sometimes Emma Koivisto and Nora Hirom have jumped to center and when it’s time for the European Championship, the competition heats up – really.

Two Damallsvenska midfielders suddenly played most of the spring season as right-back. Rhea Oling in Rosengard and Adelina Engman in Hammarby.

“I already talked about it”

Both were also selected for Finland’s European Championship squad.

– It’s still fun with something new. It feels so good and I take advantage of it more and more all the time. She’s getting better with every passing match, Adelina Engman says of her new position.

Could Finland have a problem with too many right-backs?

Adelina Engman laughs.

– I’ve already talked about it with Rhea (Oling). It’s good to practice defending before the European Championship, we have a very difficult group. But it doesn’t matter much, we still know how to play in our positions that we have in the national team. The defense doesn’t hurt much before the European Championship.

Rhea Owling also does not believe that she will continue as a right-back in the European Championship.

“Okay, it’s going to be a tough competition,” Adelina told Adelina, laughing.

– But I don’t think she and I’ll play there. I don’t think that’s the Finnish team’s plan, but we had to train in the defensive game now and that’s good because we need to be good in the European Championship if we want to move forward, says Ulling.

Finland in ‘Group of Death’

Rhea Olling is not exaggerating when she says that Finland must be good going forward. The team will meet Germany, Spain and Denmark in the “Group of Death”.

– Perhaps I was a little disappointed when I saw the lottery. It’s a very difficult group. We’ve met Spain a few times in recent years, it’s a very tough match and now it looks even better. It might be the hardest game but our strength as a team was to defend. If we manage to keep the defensive match reasonably cohesive, we may be successful in a goal against a team, says Adelina Engman.

– It was the hardest combination possible but anything can happen. Rhea Oling says:

– We’re good at defending. That’s our mentality and we’re good on the counter-attack, so it suits us to have plenty of room to counter it.

12 of the 23 players in Finland play in Damallsvenskan. Swedish national team captain Anna Signol, 61 years old.
