Five Djurgårds players have been selected for the Swedish JVM team.
This means the club will have to dispense them up to six league matches – including two Derby matches against AIK.
– In the short term, that means it for us, says sporting director KJ Stubel, who is in the process of recruiting.
No other team has more players selected in Sweden’s JVM squad than Djurgården.
Goalkeeper Karl Lindbom, 19, defender Callie Odelius, 18, and the attacking trio of Jonathan Lecrimäki, 18, Liam Ogren, 18, and Noah Ostlund, 18, are first-teamers in the JVM squad led by Magnus Havelid.
– It’s great fun for us as an association and above all for the boys. Our strategy is to nurture talent from the Stockholm region into elite players through our junior activities, Djurgården KG Stoppel’s sports director tells Sportbladet.

At the same time that the five players are on their way with the JVM national team, Djurgården plays in the hockey Allsvenskan.
– We expect them to go for about six matches. That obviously means that for us in the short term, Stubel says.
What does that mean for you in terms of lineup?
– We have 14 strikers and nine squad players plus some injuries so the vast majority will return during that period. But for us, it’s more about supplementing our team in the long term or temporarily in the meantime.
Are we talking about deposits?
Yes, it might be relevant. Then we’ll see if we need to find a permanent solution. It is a very difficult market to operate in.
Only one goalkeeper is available
Are you checking out SHL players, HA players, or what are you aiming to capture?
– We look too broad. You have to do it when the market is tight. SHL teams catch players with lights and lanterns, and they don’t have huge teams. You have to find different solutions in this situation and it can probably come from all directions.
With successful goalkeeper Karl Lindbom leaving this fall for JVM, Matthew Galagda, 25, is the only goalkeeper, as it appears now, when the club faces, among others, arch-rivals AIK twice in the intervening days.
– We are looking for a solution to complement Matthew and get a stable pair of goalkeepers while Karl is gone.
JVM is played in Canada from December 26th to January 5th. Young crowns fly to North America on December 14th.
