Former mathematician Simon Hallenbarter has died.

It is said that he committed suicide while on vacation in Austria.

– It’s tragic, I knew him well, Bjorn Ferry tells SVT.

Swiss Simon Hallenbarter retrained from cross-country skiing to biathlon in 2002 and then competed in the World Cup for more than ten years.

He participated in three Olympic Games (2006, 2010 and 2014).

According to Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Hallenbarter was on vacation in Austria when he chose to end his life at the age of 43.

“tragic”

Bjorn Ferry44, was active as an athlete during the same period and told SVT that he had received a death notice of shock.

– It’s tragic. He’s someone you really feel like you know. We’ve always been very close to the Swiss because Wolfgang (Pechler) was the coach there when I started, Ferry says.

“It’s the worst”

This is the second time in a few years that the biathlon family has committed suicide. In the fall of 2019, Norwegian Olympic gold medalist Halvard Hannivold died of the same cause.

Legend Ole Einar Björndalen tells TV2 that he is shaky.

The worst thing is when you don’t get the help you need, or you don’t dare to ask for help until it’s too late. This is the only thing I can think of, and we can’t stop it. Life doesn’t have to end like this. It’s horrible, says Bjorndalen.
