Former Malmo player Adam Johnson, 29, has died.
The American received a roller skate on his neck during the match and later died from his injuries.
“We are devastated to announce that Adam Johnson has tragically passed away,” the Nottingham Panthers banner said X.
The accident occurred on Saturday night, during a match between the Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers in the British Premier League.
The BBC wrote that one player was hit in the neck by a skating bar and received emergency treatment on the rink while other players formed a ring around him.
Nottingham Panthers announced on X About 8,000 spectators had to evacuate the stadium due to a “serious medical condition.”
According to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the player, who turned out to be Adam Johnson, was taken to hospital in Sheffield.
“I had my whole life ahead of me”
On Sunday morning, the Nottingham Panthers team announced the death of Adam Johnson.

In the 2020/2021 season, Johnson played 21 matches with the Malmo Redhawks in the SHL. Malmo CEO and former sporting director Patrik Silfgaard received the announcement on Sunday morning.

Adam Johnson joined Malmo before Christmas 2020.
