He scored his first goals for the club by scoring four goals in the 0-5 win against Leipzig.
A little over a month ago, Darwin Nunez signed for Liverpool from Portugal’s Benfica. A deal that grabbed attention as Nunez became Liverpool’s most expensive deal ever.
So far, he has appeared in all pre-season games for Liverpool, but during Thursday’s training match against RB Leipzig, the 23-year-old forward presented himself in earnest.
He represented a total of four goals in Liverpool’s 0-5 victory over Leipzig.
The first goal with penalty kicks
Mohamed Salah scored the first goal of the match in the eighth minute. The only goal in the first half before Nunez scored four consecutive goals in the second half.
After RB Leipzig’s substitute goalkeeper Peter Golassi brought in a Luis Diaz foul, Liverpool were awarded a penalty early in the second half.
Darwin Nunez then stepped forward and scored his first goal since joining Liverpool. On the left, the 23-year-old put the ball behind Janis Blaswich and it was 0-2 a fact.
Then Nunez scored his first goal in the Liverpool match when he rolled the ball into the goalkeeper’s right corner with complete freedom.
Towards the end of the match, he also completed a triple.
After Harvey Elliott attempted a right-wing shot, Nunez was in front with his foot and directed the ball to make the score 0-4 for Liverpool, but it wasn’t there.
A minute before the end of normal time, he managed to score his fourth goal in the match from the right wing, with a little luck.
Janis Blasewicz had the ball past RB Leipzig but could not fully extend. Instead, he had to watch the ball roll over the goal line behind him for the fourth time this evening.
The next training match for Liverpool is on July 27, then against the Austrian opposition in the form of Salzburg.
