Frölunda’s Karl Klingberg’s first words after suspected match-fixing

Karl Klingberg is being investigated for match-fixing.

Now Frölundastjärnan is speaking out about the doubts.

– Believe it or not, people go crazy – and it’s hard to see, says the GP.

GP wrote that Karl Klingberg was noticeably impressed by the seriousness and investigation launched by the Swedish Ice Hockey Association after the 8-2 win over Rögel.

– It’s obviously heavy. Believe it or not, people get crazy – and it’s hard to watch. It was never my intention to hurt anyone or do anything wrong at all. It’s all about a nice sunshine story about someone who was there in Frölunda twelve years ago. It’s not funny when people write that I’m one thing and another, says Carl Klingberg to the newspaper.

Urged not to score more goals

Regarding the 8-2 goal with 51 seconds left in Saturday’s game, Klingberg urged his teammates not to score any more goals.

He said it himself in interviews afterwards, and the background is that a prominent Frölunda fan had always been betting on 8-2 for a long time.

Klingberg claims he never considered fixing the outcome of the match.

– of course not! I think this is very dangerous – and I agree. “We will act against it,” he says.

“It’s good that it’s under review.”

At the same time, he can understand that the quote is under review.

– Yes, if you take the matter up and down, it must be reviewed. But then you have to dig deeper into what was said and see what people come up with when they hear the whole story. It’s confidential, so I can’t go into that. But I think anything that could raise suspicion, it’s good to have it reviewed, I think. Then reviewers have to decide what to do with it, says Carl Klingberg.
