At home, they were celebrated for silver in the European Championship.
The German national team was welcomed at home by thousands of fans.

Despite winning “only” the silver medal at this year’s European Championships, the German national team celebrated with around 7,000 people when they returned to Germany again.
Players and managers climbed onto the balcony of Frankfurt City Hall for applause, cheers and a sea of German flags.
We wanted to be European champions, not winners of people’s hearts. But if our impressive performance has won the hearts of the German people, we are happy about it, says national team captain Martina Voss-Tecklenburg according to the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper.

Ranger Almuth Schulte joined the audience in vocals.
I grabbed the microphone and used the chorus of the classic German song “Humba Täterä”.
In her own version of the song, she used phrases like “Super, Germany” and “Black, Red, Germany” and made the audience sing along with it.
– This was incredible. We’ve always dreamed of this, Julia Gwen says according to Bild, and we’re going to take this ecstasy with us now.
Germany lost the final against England 1–2 after extra time.
