Karlstad. Gustav Rydal of Frölunda received a cold reception on his return to Karlstad.

But he left the match as the winner.

Frölunda won 2-1 after a penalty shootout.

The clubs are very competitive and tonight there was also an extra spice. Former Färjestad captain and Golden Champion Gustav Rydal returns to the Löfberg Arena for the first time since the 2021/22 Golden Season.

The club’s choice after a year in North America caused protests in FBK circles and was greeted by the home team with a welcome whistle and a sarcastic banner.

-I don’t care about that much. “I’m focusing on what I have to do to help the team get the three points,” Rydal said of the supposed welcome an hour or so before the game on TV4.

The Karlstad-born midfielder was involved in several tough encounters on the ice, but there were no three points for the visitors.

The match ended 1–1 after normal time and David Edström decided for Frölunda in the penalty shootout with Lasse Johansson saving all of the penalties.

Oslund’s teacher

FBK stalwart Per Åslund opened the scoring after seven minutes, the 37-year-old’s 400th point in the SHL.

– It’s big and fun, says Åslund on TV4.

Gustav Rydal was on the ice when teammate Henrik Tomernes equalized after a long change in the attacking zone midway through the game.

Oscar Launer made it 2-1 to FBK in the third period, but the goal was disallowed as teammate Joel Kelman was deemed to have interfered with the goalkeeper. Extra work was therefore required to choose the winner.
