A player for the men’s team in Djurgården is in custody on suspicion of rape.
The club’s chief executive, Henrik Bergren, has admitted that the situation is affecting the team.
“Obviously there has been a lot of speculation that has come down to us,” he says.
On Monday night, police arrested soccer player Djurgården because he was arrested a few hours later on suspicion of rape.
The club then made the decision to suspend one of the players from operations during the investigation, but it was kept quiet.
A day later, CEO Henrik Berggren made a statement on the Djurgården website.
– We don’t know anything more about what happened. There is of course a lot of speculation that has come down to us as well. But we simply have to let the police investigation take the steps they need. We haven’t spoken to the player in question. We know nothing more than anyone else. He says, I think people respect that.
“it is amazing”
Berggren admits that the last day is affecting the club and the team.
– There is no talk of it. We are absolutely determined to play two good games a week. This is the focus of the players. In order for them to be able to have the peace of mind and achieve the accomplishments they need, I think they need a little bit of the information we have and they can ask questions, says the CEO.
On Tuesday, the team trained abroad in Kaknäs ahead of two tough matches this week against Gent and BK Häcken.
We feel completely safe in what we have around us. It is clearly a mind boggling thing. But in general, we feel completely safe in the group and with the people around us, team leader Magnus Ericsson tells Fotbollskanalen.
