HV71 broke the deadlock against Malmö – won after a penalty shootout

Over a hundred minutes of passive play was finally broken.

HV71 scored 26 seconds before the end of the match against Malmö and then won on penalties.

—We showed the character when we bounced back, says ranger Johnny Orteau on Sea More.

It took nearly two periods of play before the first goal came in Malmö when the Redhawks conceded HV71.

Then Christopher Forsberg suddenly came clean in front of the box before Johnny Ortio, with some trouble, passed the puck and gave Malmo the lead.

“I try to pull it off first and hit the comeback, that’s been great,” says Forsberg at C. More.

Zero in five periods

When the second period ended, it was then clear that HV71 had not scored any of the first five periods since his return to the SHL.

Very few chances were created, according to striker Mikel Bodker.

– We don’t when we haven’t scored in two games yet, Bödker says on C More during the break.

It has to come at some point if we keep trying and keep our heads high. If we’re still making and want to score, it will come at some point.

HV71 won on penalties

Mikkel Boedker was right.

It took nearly 108 minutes of play in the SHL before HV71 scored and when the goal came, it was the ketchup effect.

HV71 scored three goals in the third and final game meaning the team kept the points.

Malmo led 3-2 in the final stages of the match, but with 26 seconds remaining, Taylor Matson tapped the rebound to make it 3-3.

The match went to a penalty shootout with Andre Petersen as the only goal and HV71 earned his first two points since his return to the SHL.

It’s clearly good to get a first win of the season, says goalkeeper Johnny Orteau at Sea More.

– We showed the character when we wore it.
