The victory in the Indy 500 made Marcus Ericsson a legend.
He gave him a ring, a car and a huge Victory Check worth 30 million kroner.
As for Sportbladet, he reveals what he has to do with the money.
When Marcus Ericsson Crossing the finish line as the first driver of the 106th edition of the Indianapolis 500, he entered the history books. His name is printed on the ring and he will always be invited to the classic competition.
But he also got a 2023 Corvette Z06 which is said to be worth more than 1 million crowns and about 30 million crowns in prize money.
– I didn’t think about it, not for a second. I didn’t know that until we were at the dinner party after the win. Then it dawned on me that it was also a check of victory, he told Sportbladet.
“hard to understand”
30 million. Is the victory really worth that much money?
– It’s obviously an amazing sum that’s hard to fathom. First of all, it should be shared with the team, the guys who work with car #8, and other people around. But he says it’s still a very large amount of money.
At the same time, that’s not why I’m racing, I never ride for money but I ride because I love it and in this case I feel like the win and the fact that I won is incredibly big in itself. I’m really proud of that.
What will you do with your money then?
– I don’t know either, I get a car too. I got the Safety Car and it felt really cool, so I don’t need to buy a car.
But it would be another investment.
– My girlfriend and I were looking for houses in Indianapolis and maybe now is the time to strike, I don’t know. I didn’t think until now, I didn’t have a minute to think or even absorb all of this, Marcus Ericsson tells Sportbladet.
– Iris is still on the move. She has an apartment in Copenhagen and has been going back and forth here during the spring. She was supposed to come back today for her degree, but she decided to put it off until August and I’m so grateful for that. It’s great to share this with her.
For Ericsson, the season now continues with a competition in Detroit next weekend. On the track he took first podium in 2019 and won his first race in 2021.
It feels so great, if there’s any path you have to get down to after winning the Indianapolis 500, it is. I thrive there.
