Toronto goalkeeper Matt Murray has injured his groin area and will be out for at least four weeks. It could lead to new opportunities for Eric Calgren.
Murray has been traded to Toronto this season from Ottawa and has played only one game in the regular season for his new club – the season’s opening loss to Montreal – having made it through training camp and pre-season without a hitch.
– He put in a lot of work and never missed a second, but he felt good all the way. In that light, it’s disappointing, both for him and us, coach Sheldon Keefe tells the NHL website.
Toronto still has goalkeeper Ilya Samsonov, who has played in the team’s other two games this season, both of which have won.
– We still have here Erik Källgren, who has done a good job for us in the future and there will be opportunities for others. “It’s going to create opportunities for us within our salary cap and stuff, so there are things that come with that that could be positive,” Keefe said.
Calgren also injured himself last Friday in an AHL game, but was able to get off the next day and called up to his parent club.
Eric Calgren played fourteen games for Toronto last season, including eight wins, and “did a good job,” according to Keefe.
26-year-old Erik Källgren previously played SHL ice hockey for Växjö.
