Cody Jaco gave the Netherlands the lead in the sixth minute at Khalifa International Stadium but it was Ecuador who carried out the most attacks for the rest of the match.
New success for Inner Valencia
The recognition came at the start of the second half and it was – of course – Enner Valencia who was the scorer. The 33-year-old was in the right place when Andres Nobert fired a rebound and then scored his third goal of the World Cup in Qatar.
Then the game ended heavy for Valencia, who sat on the pitch and was then carried off on a stretcher in the 90th minute. He sat on the bench with a large ice pack around his right knee.
Ecuador’s only goalscorer in the tournament is no beginner when it comes to World Cup success. Even in the World Cup eight years ago, Ener Valencia scored all of Ecuador’s goals and thus scored the last six World Cup goals.

The common points mean that both Ecuador and the Netherlands are in a good starting position in the final group-stage match.
The Netherlands advances as long as the team does not lose to Qatar (and can advance even if it loses) and for Ecuador, a draw with Senegal is enough.
