New York. Skrällar and the Swedish rookies are the subject of tonight’s NHL sweep.
Swedish debutante at night
After notable success with Rochester in the Farm League, 20-year-old playmaker Isak Rosen was forced to make his NHL debut for the Buffalo Sabres last night – away to New Jersey.
However, it was not a great experience. The Sabers were de facto responsible for one of the least inspiring efforts of the season and fell to 7-2.
– A big disappointment, says coach Don Granato.
In the home camp, the joy was greater. The Newark Devils – with team captain Nico Hischier in the lineup for the first time in eleven rounds – broke a three-game losing streak.
Alexander Holtz scored his sixth goal of the season and Jesper Brat made two assists.
Rosen played exactly thirteen minutes and the score was minus 2.
Night cry 1
No one expected that young San Jose would have much to gain against exciting Vancouver, but – well.
The Sharks were able to put a golden edge on Saturday night in Silicon Valley with a 4-3 upset win.
– It’s encouraging to see that we can come back after failures like the one we had in Seattle last time. But we can’t be complacent, we have to keep climbing, says coach David Quinn.
Fabian Zetterlund scored one of the home team’s goals – his fifth of the season – and Elias Pettersson provided an assist for the visitors.
Night cry 2
Not many people come to T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip and dismiss the defending champions, but that’s exactly what the Arizona Coyotes did that night.
They won 2-0 after goals from Clayton Keeler and Lawson Cross.
– Well, there wasn’t much in the game, sighs Knights captain Mark Stone.
What he gave the most at night: 1
The LA Kings are currently one of the best teams in the league and easily notched their fifth straight win by defeating a tired Montreal 4-0 at home at Crypto Hall.
– They don’t give you room to breathe. It’s impressive, says Habs guard Jake Allen.
Karl Grundstrom scored his seventh goal of the season and Andreas Englund responded with an assist.
Most giving of the night 2
It goes without saying that the Calgary Flames, after a successful scrimmage against Dallas the day before, wouldn’t be able to beat Colorado on the road — and they didn’t either.
Ephesus water with 3-1.
Mikael Backlund scored a consolation goal for the visitors.
Swedes of the night
- Erik Karlsson, Pittsburgh Penguins – A great game hero in the Penguin Kingdom.
- Samuel Ersson, Philadelphia Flyers – Led the Flyers to a 1-0 win with the second shutout of his NHL career.
- Carl Grundstrom, Los Angeles Kings – The most underrated Swede in the league once again scored.
- Alexander Holtz, New Jersey Devils – Keeps sneaking around.
- Fabian Zetterlund and the San Jose Sharks added to the night’s hype with another complete hit.
