Pontus Ward Wiklund was on his way to WC with Sweden’s U18 handball team when he threw a joke bomb at Kastrup Airport.
He is now talking about the incident on the ONERD website.
I realize how serious and foolish my actions are.
Pontus Ward Weklund was scheduled to fly from Kastrup Airport to WC with the under-18s, where he takes charge of the national team, on Friday.
At the security check, he joked that he had a bomb in his bag, and then the station was evacuated and Ward Weklund was arrested.
Now he is speaking publicly about the accident.
– I lost my judgment completely for a while and joked about something you shouldn’t joke about, especially not in that place. “I want to apologize to my national team, the federation, airport staff and other people affected by this,” he said in a press release on the ONERD website.
Constantly gaining confidence
Ward Wiklund recently received the assignment as head coach of Önnered’s men’s team, one in which he will continue to gain confidence.
However, he was not allowed to accompany the national under-18 team to the World Cup, and was instead replaced by women’s national team captain Thomas Axnier, who was announced by the federation via its website.
I realize how serious and foolish my actions are. I’m also ready to take a potential punishment, learn from that, and then move on with life, he says.
The FIFA World Cup has now begun and the Swedish women’s U18s lost their first match against Iceland 17-22.
