NHL veteran Jacob Silverberg, 32, will captain Tre Kronor at the World Cup of Hockey.
– I feel incredibly proud, there are so many good candidates, says Silverberg.
Meanwhile, Tre Kronor will apparently score 20 in Friday’s World Cup opener against Germany.
Etihad captain Sam Hallam, after Thursday’s practice at WC Stadium in Tampere, announced his selection to the captaincy.
Anaheim forward Jacob Silverberg, 32, will be the team captain. Swiss pro Jacob De La Rose, 27, and Detroit star Lucas Raymond, 21, will become co-captains.
– We try to spread the captain’s group in different parts of the team so that the old man’s rack does not rule, says Hallam, who explains why the choice fell on Silfverberg:

Silverberg sees the appointment as an honorary captain.
– I think there are an incredibly good number of candidates, it’s an incredibly great group. I’ve spent 1.5 weeks with them and you seem like a really tight bunch already. It’s a good sign, believes Silverberg, who has played 11 seasons in the NHL and has been the assistant captain at Anaheim since 2019.
Former player Brynässtjärnan is competing in the World Cup for the first time since 2012, but he competed in both the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014 and the World Cup in 2016.

– I think it feels good. They’ve been on the right track, Sam may have talked for some time about keeping a core group that’s been with them for a long time so it doesn’t spread out too much and have ten guys coming in the final days before the World Cup.
– We have some real goalscorers who can be decisive in matches and then a very strong foundation, says Silverberg.

Tre Kronor will score two goalkeepers, six defenders and 12 forwards in the opening match of the World Cup against Germany. This meant that one goalkeeper’s place and four player positions on the field were left open in the World Cup squad, which could eventually consist of 25 players.
The team can be renewed until the last match day.
Hallam doesn’t want to say which players on the court have been left out of the WC lineup, it will be announced Thursday night. However, Jacob Johansson confirms, Timra, will be the goalkeeper which has not been reported.
Los Angeles striker Karl Grundstrom, who arrives on Thursday, is expected to move directly into the squad for the Germany game.
– Kale is down during the day today and we see he’ll be part of the squad tomorrow if he’s fit and energetic, says Hallam.
