Sweat ran down the 55-year-old’s cheeks, but the look was one of relief and satisfaction. Fredrikson did the job as the Swedish team’s first rider in the opening time jump.
The 84.50 seconds on the track went as planned.
– I wanted to use his big mare, I didn’t want him to get hot. I wanted him to finish with a gentle jump and a relaxed run across the finish line, so that you come into day two with a horse that feels completely confident, he says and continues:
If I ride really fast, as I did here in 2013 (EC) with the Lunatic, I was faster on day one and on day two it was like a racehorse instead of a jumping horse and that feeling isn’t funny.

– I’ll try to ride according to a good plan and ride like I did today. Perhaps the most difficult challenge is the time limit. It’s not a good idea to get timing errors, they always cost in the end.
Trinidad and Tobago: How do you prepare “Cosmo”?
– He goes to the chest now, gets some carrots, makes it easy and then we go out and pat him a few times. The atmosphere is very nice and loves to be outside.
Trinidad and Tobago: How long does it take for a horse to jump?
– It will probably take some time. He jogged and didn’t feel tired but there is a little lactic acid in him afterwards. It’s a long course, 14 obstacles and 17 jumps, so it’s a real jump, but he trained.
loves the heat
After a cool, wet start to the water cycle, high summer weather moves over Gotland. The next few days will be sunny and hot. Jens loves it—and he knows Markan Cosmopolit doesn’t mind jumping in the heat wave.
It’s good, it’s positive. My horse has become soft in my body.
