The 52 ft (15.8 m) barge is equipped with two monster engines each with 1,500 horsepower, and is said to have a top speed of just over 100 knots (185 kilometers per hour).
Last Friday, the former ski king was scheduled to take his friends and brother – former Olympic mountaineer Hans Olsson – on a short day trip from Sandhamn to Jutland.
He went… like that.
Burn 1000 liters of soup
In a video on his YouTube channel, where Jon Olson has over 1.5 million followers, viewers follow when what was supposed to be a “quick lunch trip” suddenly turns into a huge drama in the middle of the sea.
The weather really helped. The waves certainly didn’t allow for speeds in excess of 100 knots and after three hours of travel the breakup was real.
– The engine doesn’t start and the fuel gauge shows zero, even though we’ve had 1,000 liters an hour ago, John Olson is heard saying on the phone.
Arrived in the evening
The sea rescue team from Fårösund had to move, but it took four hours before they reached Jon Olsson & Co, who at the time were in the middle of the sea.

After a lot of ups and downs, they finally got to Visby.
By then, it was already time and lunch was definitely out of the question.
– We talked about the big entry to Gotland, but that wasn’t what we had in mind…, says Olson in the video.
