Julia Erickson suffers from chronic pain after her career

It’s been almost a year since 27-year-old Julia Erickson was forced to put her handball shoes on the shelf.

Despite this, back pain still affects her daily life.

– I tore my body. After that, I developed somewhat chronic pain, she says.

In 2016, Julia Erickson was named “Guilty of the Year” by the ladies.

Only five years later, his football career ended.

During her stay abroad at Danish Randers 2018-2020, Julia Ericsson’s back problems became serious. A herniated lumbar spine and at least two stress fractures with fracture-related discs brought continued play to a halt at age 27.

– It was hard when you came to a new country and wanted to prove yourself. The coach put a lot of pressure on me, causing my body to rip. After that, I developed rather chronic pain. We trained a few times a week and then I had eight extra sessions on top of the ones we had with the team to come back from injury. I was awake for 13 sessions. Had she been given a more reasonable plan, I think it would have gone much better than it is now, she tells her family doctor.

“Exercises for 80-year-olds”

In August, it was a year since the decision was made to put my handball shoes on the shelf.

Despite this, the former left winger still had back problems in everyday life. She says she always has to take breaks and lie down and rest to deal with the next thing she has to do. At work as a substitute for school, you are forced to take breaks in the staff room to deal with the work day.

– I get exercises for the 80s. Sit on a chair and raise your leg. It’s hard that I still hurt when I let go. Now I no longer push myself, but I pushed myself really hard before. She says it is a suspicious situation.

In the fall, we hope Julia Erickson will undergo rigorous surgery. Two discs should be replaced with prosthetics on the rear end.

For me, there is really no other alternative. It’s just an opportunity for me to maybe be able to break free from the pain instead of walking around and hurting all the time. It’s not an immediately enjoyable life to be limited as I am, she says.
