In 2018, Canada won the JVM gold in ice hockey.
A woman is now accusing several players on the team of sexual assault, TSN writes.
“The allegations reflect hateful and heinous behaviour,” the National Hockey League said in a statement.
Canada won the 2018 JVM Gold after beating Junior Crowns 3-1 in the final.
TSN has now reported that several players on the Canadian team are accused of sexually assaulting a woman who is now 24 years old.
Eight male hockey players, many of them on the gold team, were said to have sexually abused the woman in a hotel room during the tournament.
According to the woman, the Canadian Ice Hockey Federation should be made aware of the accusations and an internal investigation should be launched.
“The person who made the allegations chose not to speak to the police or independent Canadian ice hockey investigators. The person also chose not to identify the players involved. She has the right to do so and we respect her wishes,” the union said in a statement.
The NHL is investigating the issue
The case has not been taken up in court, but instead the woman must have reached an agreement with the Canadian Hockey League and the Canadian Junior Federation where the woman is seeking just over SEK 27 million in damages.
“The plaintiff is satisfied with the outcome and satisfied with the resolution of this difficult matter,” the woman’s attorney, Robert Tallach, wrote in an email to TSN.
The players involved are not public, but several of them can now play in the NHL, which condemns the incident.
“The allegations reflect disgraceful and outrageous behavior. We will strive to establish the basic facts and the extent to which this may affect players currently playing in the National Hockey League. If necessary, we will determine what action to take. We will not comment on the matter further,” the NHL wrote in a statement.
