Lasse Johansson made history with his toilet debut: “Hard work pays off”

He kept a clean sheet in the restroom for the first time – 35 years old

TAMMERFORS / Stockholm. There was talk of the youngest beginners.

But the oldest stole the show at the World Cup premiere.

– I’ve come a long way and I’ve fought, says goalkeeper Lacey Johansson, 35.

The introduction was for Leo Carlsson, Örebro’s talent, who at the age of 18 and 136 days became the youngest toilet rookie in Tre Kronor.

But in the opening win over Germany, it was another player who stood out the most: Frolland goalkeeper Lasse Johansson, then soon to be 36, kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Germany.

– Obviously, victory is the most important thing. It’s always good to keep a clean sheet, but the most important thing is to find a good feeling and play well, he says.

The oldest participation in the World Cup

He is the oldest World Cup debutant on Tre Kronor’s goalkeeper side ever.

Lars Johansson keeps a clean sheet.

Maybe because I wasn’t good enough before. For various reasons, I declined when I might have had the opportunity in previous years. But I’m glad they pulled me out and gave me the chance, says Johansson, who made her Olympic debut last year.

Is this proof that you should never give up?

– exactly. I myself think I’ve come a long way and fought. Hard work pays off.

The family paid for the restroom

Lasse Johansson returned home to Frölunda in the pre-season after five seasons in the KHL and one in the AHL.

What other options did you have before going to the bathroom? Do you have fun with Frölunda or a family holiday?

– very funny. I started (Frolunda) on Monday, so I must have run up some hill by now. But it’s different when you play abroad. Now we live here with the family. They pushed me the most to go if I had the chance. I’m glad they did and supported me.
