Leo Carlson’s family shocked after 2023 NHL draft: ‘Tears are rolling down’

Leo Carlson’s family followed the NHL draft

Leo Carlson was selected 2nd overall in the NHL Draft.

A shock of joy for the gifted loved ones on location in Nashville.

– I am very proud, – says girlfriend Daniela Mueller.

Canadian Conor Bedard was the first pick in this year’s NHL Draft. Back there, it was more open, but Örebro’s super talent Leo Carlsson was called on stage by the Anaheim Ducks right after that, and not even the 18-year-old’s family in the stands at Bridgestone Arena dared dream of it.

– We were stopped even though I knew there was a chance. There are many talented men out there, says Camilla Carlson, Leo’s mother.

Along with her son’s friend Daniela Mueller, who is her own age, they are trying to recover in a rooftop pool at the country music mecca of Nashville, where they are staying for a few more days. Leo is busy watching the telecast of the second day of the draft (in which teammate Milton Oscarson was drafted by Chicago) with his brothers Casper and Noel and father Kenneth.

Camila describes Yesterday as “crazy, super sexy and nervous”.

– First they said Örebro and I thought: wait now? Is there more Orebro here? Although it was only a split second before they said his name, it felt like an eternity. Everything seemed a blur and the tears still rolled a little now and then. We are very proud.

Proud girlfriend: “So much fun”

Daniela feels the same. She lives with Leo in Örebro and says they’ve been a couple for about a year and a half now.

We are all shocked that he is gone So early. We thought he was going to be picked third or something. Daniela says, I was so shocked.

Did you closely follow his path to this landmark?

– Yes. It’s so satisfying to see the person you love the most achieve something that’s been a dream for so long. I am so proud and happy for him.

The mileage is 13 hours

A voice in the background warns of a storm approaching the city. They are given ten minutes to leave the pool area, but take it with a heel kick. The air gods posed much bigger problems when the family arrived at Newark Airport outside New York on Tuesday.

– We are already an hour late from Stockholm. Then we found out that our connecting flight was cancelled. When we were in the process of fixing other tickets, they were fully booked. After a few hours in line, Camila says, my husband realized we had to rent a car.

He said and did. Camilla, Father Kenneth and Leo’s older brother Casper all got behind the wheel as they covered 140 miles in 13 hours.

– It was stormy, torrential and thunderous at first, but then it got a little better. It was press, we were so tired. But what not to do? I finally succeeded. It was really worth it, Camila laughs.

Did you have time to celebrate?

Yesterday we were really tired. We’ll celebrate a little more today. It got a little late and we took an extra glass outside the arena. Liu immediately went to bed. When we left the stadium he was wearing his match shirt, but after a while he had to take it off so we could leave. There were a lot of people looking for autographs. It’s a little hard to understand that our little man has become so big and famous, says a proud mom.
