Linus Olmark attended his father’s funeral digitally

Linus Olmark lost his father.

The NHL star now talks about grief – and says he was forced to attend the funeral via video link.

In the middle of it all, I find myself thinking how surreal this situation is, he says on Radio Örnsköldsvik.

He was 63 years old.

Olmark received the news after the morning warm-up before the first leg against the Philadelphia Flyers. He already felt on the ice that something was wrong, and as soon as he entered the dressing room, he saw that he had received a missed call from his mother.

“Life flows from my soul”

Then he immediately realized what had happened.

– My soul runs out of life when I add one by one and immediately call my mother, he says in his “Holiday Talk” on Örnsköldsvik Radio, according to Hockey Sweden.

Right after that, he went to his hotel room and completely collapsed.

Tears roll down my cheeks as I scream my love and despair into the pillow. I feel like a kid again and I just want someone to hold me. Anyone. But that’s just me. Single.

Olmark’s father had been ill for a long time and the pandemic meant he was never able to see his son living far in North America.

The pandemic also meant they didn’t have the opportunity to say goodbye in person, but over the phone — and Linus had to attend the funeral digitally.

I get up at quarter past four in the morning, put on a jumpsuit and slippers, sit in front of the computer and click on the link my mother sent me so I can share via the video link. In the middle of it all, I find myself thinking about how surreal this situation is. The funeral is over, the video has faded to black and I feel like the class isn’t over yet. I didn’t get the closure I got after the funeral—everything looks the same as before, Olmark says.
