Malin Asa is making a sensational comeback after seven years

Malin Aasa ended her football career in 2015.

Now, the former national team player is sensationally returning to the league after seven years.

– It’s amazing even for me, says the 35-year-old.

Malin Asa played 45 international matches and won the gold medal in Sweden Norrköping’s dolphins 2013. Two years later, she put her shoes on the shelf to invest in her career as a nurse and start a family.

But now Aasa is back after being away from basketball for seven years. The 35-year-old has signed with Östersund Basket in the top league.

– I quit because I have kids and it wasn’t time to start, but it was hard to let go. It was Alpha (Strong, Coach) who came up with the idea and then I started thinking. It’s kind of a last chance and I love playing basketball, so I wanted to take it, says Asa.

“not worried”

The goalkeeper has two children, four and seven, with coach Adnan Chowk of the league team Jamtland basket.

– She worked shifts while he worked so we actually lived through a big mystery. Now I go to work every day and study part time, so it’s going to be a bit of a puzzle anyway. But I think it will work fine. Alpha is very positive and she said we solved it and we have little girls in the club who can be babysitters.

What shape do you keep after seven years?

– I only played on Thick Ice 1-2 times a week. But physically, I’m not worried. I have summer to prepare. I may not be exactly where I left off then, but I wouldn’t have jumped in if I didn’t think it would work. But we will see how it goes. It would be exciting.

With Malin Aasa, the league’s image is getting stronger. Louis Halvarson, Frida and Ellen Eldebrink have already signed Södertälje.

– It will be a lot of fun. Frida just wrote. Asa says I thought about going back even before it was over with them, but it would be horrible to play against them again.
