Malmö FF got off to a rough start in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.
Zalgiris were the best team at home, winning 1-0 after a decisive start at the start of the second half.
It was a crazy start Malmo FFChampions League qualifiers away from home against Zalgiris Vilnius.
The MFF had the opportunity to take the lead almost immediately when Veljko Birmancevic was crystal clear in front of goal but finished the game in front.
– It should be a clear goal and of course he should score goals from there. I think he shot at ten metres, says expert Per Lagerstrom on the Sportbladet broadcast.
Missed at the finish line
Even ten minutes before the start of the match, Permanshevich was surpassed in the art of absence – with flying colors.
Matthias Oyoyosi Kehinde hit a direct free kick at Johan Dahlin a few minutes ago after being responsible for something possibly one of the LFF’s Western mistakes in Vilnius history.
Oyewusi Kehinde stood on the goal line when the ball came towards him but somehow the Nigerian failed to force it inside and the MFF managed to exhale.
The remaining 35 minutes of the half were not eventful and the score was 0-0 at the break.
Return match next week
Al-Zaljiri’s goal came four minutes after the start of the second half.
Fabian Origa hit a shot outside the box and after superb control from MFF defender Lasse Nielsen, the ball was in the net behind Johan Dahlin.
MFF coach Milos Milojevic tried to change the game’s picture through several changes, but his team struggled to create equal chances. Zalgiris was the closest to the second goal of the match but had to win 1-0.
The return match will take place in Malmö on Wednesday next week.
