Malmö won the group final after a big turnaround • The Swedish Cup

The European opportunity is still alive

Malmö was on its way out of the Swedish Cup.

Then Derek Cornelius decided on a new possession in the 89th minute against Degerforce and ensured the survival of the MFF Cup and the European dream.

– In the end, there is no doubt we won fairly, says MFF coach Henrik Rydström at C More.

Both teams faced the match with six points and a 3-0 goal difference. In the event of a tie on Sunday, Degerforce will advance via better fair play stats as the team received fewer warnings and red cards in the cup than MFF.

And good advice was too expensive for MFF.

Dejan Vukojevic gave Dijerforce the lead in the 57th minute, and so MFF needed to score two goals and they started a real push. In the 86th minute, Skåne also got on the way when Isaac Kiese Thelin equalised.

Three minutes later, the conversion was completed when Canadian freshman Derek Cornelius pulled ahead and headed in the final score, 2-1.

Fence break

Coinciding with the goal, a fence was broken as MNF supporters celebrated and several people poured onto the pitch. Medical and security personnel quickly moved to the side of the stands and the match was paused for a few minutes.

Thus, MFF advances from the group stage, while the Digerforce Cup match is over. For Malmo, it also means that the European dream lives on. The winner of the Swedish Cup qualifies for qualification to the European Conference League.

It’s always fun to win and now we have the chance here, says Henrik Rydström.
