Mario Kempe will miss the rest of the season – he has a broken knee

There will be no more matches in Mario Kempe’s Lulea shirt this season.

The 34-year-old is suffering from a knee injury that needs surgery.

– This, of course, is very unfortunate for both Mario and Lulea Hockey, says Thomas Isakson, orthopedist at Lulea Hockey.

After missing five games due to a knee injury, Mario Kempe returned to the ice last week, in the match against HV71. But it doesn’t look completely 100 percent.

Now Lulea announces that the player will miss the rest of the season.

Quimby suffers a broken kneecap and is forced to undergo surgery. After the operation, there is a recovery period of three months.

– This, of course, is very unfortunate for both Mario and Lulia for hockey. But the positive is that he will most likely make a full recovery and should be ready for next season. It’s sad, but injuries are unfortunately unavoidable in elite sports, says Lulea orthopedist Thomas Isakson in a press release.

Not related to the cruciate ligament

Lulea medical staff were able to establish that the patella fracture came after Mario Kempe joined Lulea in November. Thus, the injury has nothing to do with the cruciate ligament injury from which Kempe recovered before signing the contract with Lulea.

– When Mario came to us he was fully recovered and passed all exams 100%. When we look at the previous images, we can see that this is a new injury that we could not have expected.

Since Kempe joined the SHL-tian in November, he has played 14 games.
