Matt Bengt Johansson – Become a Handball Legend at the age of 79

Bengt “Bengan” Johansson died after a period of illness.

The handball legend is 79 years old.

“Bengt Johansson is forever a notable part of Swedish handball history and is at the heart of Swedish handball,” writes the Swedish Handball Federation.

Bengt Johansson is one of the greatest Swedish handball leaders of all time.

He has made a huge impression in Sweden and at the international level with the national team called “Pengan Boys”.

This is how many former handball champions remember their successful national team captain: a man with a big heart

The “Bengan Boys” team led by Bengt has for many years been one of the most important Swedish sports brands and created many handball memories among the Swedish people. We cannot count how many people started and continued to play and lead handball and were inspired by Bengt’s overall leadership. Many of those who played for “Bengan” in the national team are now successful and active handball personalities and ambassadors for Swedish Handball,” the Swedish Handball Federation wrote.

The family came with a greeting via the local newspaper Hallandsposten.

My father, Bengt Johansson, fell asleep on the evening of May 8th after an illness. In accordance with his last wish, he was taken care of at home. I understand that my father meant a lot to many people, both in sports and abroad. We in the immediate family reject further comments and wish we had time to process the grief, says son Peter.
