Fabian O’Neill was part of Uruguay’s squad for the 2022 World Cup and has played in Serie A for most of his career.
The central midfielder came to Cagliari from Uruguayan club Nacional and his career was at its peak when the transfer to Juventus took place in the summer of 2000.
However, there was another side to football success.
Struggles with alcohol problems
Fabian O’Neil was considered one of the most talented players that Uruguay has produced in recent decades, but at the same time he struggled with his addiction to alcohol.
O’Neill retired from football at the age of 29 in 2003 and died on Christmas Day due to chronic liver problems.
