Mattias Ekholm on the Edmonton Oilers crisis: “The worst in my career”

The star-studded Edmonton Oilers are the second-worst team to start in the NHL.

A 6-2 loss away to the Vancouver Canucks meant the team remained with five points in eleven games.

– I don’t think I’ve ever had a worse start to a season in my career, it’s a test, says Matthias Ekholm.

In the three games against the Vancouver Canucks, the Edmonton Oilers have now suffered three losses by a goal difference of 6-18.

Then Mattias Ekholm still gave his team the lead with a powerful shot in the first half.

– Right now, what we do doesn’t seem to matter. In two or three games we had a good start, but somehow we found a way to go into the break with flaws. It’s frustrating, I don’t know if you can play better in the first 15 minutes. I don’t feel sorry for myself, but this is our reality now. We have to work harder to resolve this, says Matthias Ekholm.

Frustration was palpable among the stars when Connor McDavid was suspended for two minutes for roughness and Leo Draisaitl was suspended ten minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Even head coach Jay Woodcroft received an unsportsmanlike and game misconduct penalty because he said something to the officials.

New result for Elias

The Vancouver Canucks have seven wins and one overtime loss in their last eight games.

Nils Hoglander had a goal and an assist for Elias Pettersson, and defender Quinn Hughes continued his fine form with a goal and three assists.

Elias Pettersson leads the NHL scoring list with 21 points (six goals, 15 assists).
